How to send it to Alerus

  1. Alerus has two prebuilt layouts. Use this one if your account is set up for the Standard NO PAYEE format (payee names aren't checked).
  2. Not sure which one you have? Ask the Alerus Treasury Management Solutions Center at 800.279.3200 or treasury@alerus.com.

Good to know

  • Column order follows Alerus's sample: check number, amount, check date (MM/DD/YYYY). No header or footer.
  • Alerus's standard formats have no void column, so voided checks are left out of the file. Contact Alerus to void them.
  • Alerus's guide also lists zero fill, but its own sample has none. BankFileKit follows the sample (decided 10/26/2026).

Where Alerus's guide doesn't say

BankFileKit fills these in with safe defaults. Your test file confirms them with Alerus before you send a live file.

  • BankFileKit default: Line endings: Windows (CRLF). Alerus's guide doesn't say.
  • BankFileKit default: Text: plain ASCII.
  • BankFileKit default: A field is put in double quotes only when it has a comma. Alerus's guide doesn't say how commas are handled.
  • BankFileKit default: Amounts are always written with two decimal places, for example 375.00.
  • BankFileKit default: Amounts up to $99,999,999.99.
