What Truist receives

The Truist file BankFileKit makes from a sample QuickBooks report with fake checks. You see this proof for your own file before anything leaves your browser.

File proof

Truist , Online Courier issue file, comma delimited

3 checks$10,687.861 void

Compare these totals with your QuickBooks report.

  1. Line 1. One check per line: issue/void code, check number, issue date, amount and payee, in this order.

  2. Line 2. A payee name with a comma is sent without the comma. The notes below say why.

  3. Line 3. A voided check, marked V, with its original amount. QuickBooks shows voids as $0.00, so BankFileKit asks you for the original amount.

Check 1005 from the sample is left out of this example: its payee name is longer than the 40 characters Truist allows. With your own file, BankFileKit shows how to fix a name like that.

Note: Already have a Truist import map?

Your file has to match the map you upload it with. Add a new map with the settings below, or use My bank isn't listed to make a file that matches the map you have.
  1. Make sure your Online Courier user has the Secure File Transfer rights for creating maps and sending Positive Pay issue files. Your company's Online Courier administrator can add them.
  2. In Online Courier, open Secure File Transfer, then SFT Send. Under File Mapper Settings choose Settings, then Create File Map.
  3. Structure: give the map a name and upload a file you downloaded from BankFileKit as the test file. Field delimiter: a comma. Ignore blank lines: Yes. Headers or footers: No.
  4. Fields: Account Number is a constant value, your Truist account number. Check Number is field index 2. Check Issue Date is field index 3 with the date format MMDDYY (choose Custom and type MMDDYY if it isn't in the list). Check Amount is field index 4, with Two decimal places implied checked.
  5. Leave Additional Data and Issue Payee 2 as Not Specified. Issue Payee 1 is field index 5. Void Indicator is field index 1, with V as the match value.
  6. There's no header or footer, so skip validation. Review the map and save it. Truist confirms when your Positive Pay service is ready for your first upload.
  7. To send a file, open SFT Send, choose Upload, pick the file and upload it. Online Courier collects files every half hour from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM ET on business days.

Good to know

  • Truist's Online Courier lets you map your own file. This layout follows the order of Truist's sample file: issue or void, check number, issue date, amount in cents, then the payee.
  • Your account number goes in the map once, as a constant, so it isn't in the file. Each file is for one account.
  • The file name starts with your Online Courier company ID, then _POSPAYFILE_ and the date, as Truist asks. Type the company ID on the tool page.
  • Payee names go in Truist's first payee field, which holds 40 characters. Truist needs them if you use Payee Name Verification.
  • Online Courier collects uploaded files every half hour from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM ET on business days.

Where Truist's guide doesn't say

BankFileKit fills these in with safe defaults. Your test file confirms them with Truist before you send a live file.

  • BankFileKit default: Commas are left out of payee names. Truist's sample has no quoting, so a comma would split the name into two fields.
  • BankFileKit default: A payee name longer than 40 characters is an error. Truist's guide doesn't say how its two 40-character payee fields are joined.
  • BankFileKit default: Check numbers up to 10 digits and amounts up to $99,999,999.99, the limits in Truist's direct-transmission file spec.
  • BankFileKit default: Issued checks are marked I. Truist treats anything other than V as issued.
  • BankFileKit default: The test file uses the same file name pattern, so its name doesn't end in -TEST.
  • BankFileKit default: Line endings: Windows (CRLF). Text: plain ASCII.

Note: Send a test file to Truist first

Before your first live file, download the free test file with your first 3 checks, send it to Truist, and confirm it was accepted. BankFileKit can't guarantee that Truist will accept a file.
