What Simmons Bank receives

The Simmons Bank file BankFileKit makes from a sample QuickBooks report with fake checks. You see this proof for your own file before anything leaves your browser.

4 checks$23,187.861 void

Compare these totals with your QuickBooks report.

  1. Line 1. One check per line: check number, issue date, payee, amount and issue/void code, in this order.

  2. Line 2. A payee name with a comma goes in single quotes ('), so the bank reads it as one name.

  3. Line 3. A voided check, marked V, with its original amount. QuickBooks shows voids as $0.00, so BankFileKit asks you for the original amount.

Good to know

  • Simmons lets you map your own file in Treasury Connect. This layout uses the same column numbers as the example in Simmons's guide: check number, issued date, payee, amount and a void indicator (V on voided checks, blank otherwise).
  • The payee name should match exactly what is printed on the check, including capitalization and punctuation.
  • Simmons's text qualifier is a single quote, so a payee name with a comma is wrapped in single quotes. A payee with both a comma and an apostrophe can't be sent; BankFileKit tells you how to fix it.

Where Simmons Bank's guide doesn't say

BankFileKit fills these in with safe defaults. Your test file confirms them with Simmons Bank before you send a live file.

  • BankFileKit default: Line endings: Windows (CRLF). Simmons's guide doesn't say.
  • BankFileKit default: Text: plain ASCII.
  • BankFileKit default: Voided checks carry the original check amount, as in Simmons's sample.
  • BankFileKit default: Check numbers up to 15 digits and amounts up to $99,999,999.99. Simmons's guide doesn't publish field lengths.

Note: Send a test file to Simmons Bank first

Before your first live file, download the free test file with your first 3 checks, send it to Simmons Bank, and confirm it was accepted. BankFileKit can't guarantee that Simmons Bank will accept a file.
